DENVER, COLORADO, WEDNESDAY JULY 1, 2020 — The Western Chapter of the American Red Cross of Colorado is proud to announce the addition of Sean Killoy as the new Disaster Program Manager for Southwestern Colorado and the San Luis Valley. As part of this transition, the Red Cross has relocated its area office from Alamosa to Durango. A new office space will be established in Durango once normal business operations resume.
Sean Killoy was a volunteer for the Red Cross prior to his selection as Disaster Program Manager, serving on our Disaster Action Team and as a Community Volunteer Liaison. Most recently, he led the Red Cross response to the East Canyon Fire. His volunteerism extends to other community organizations, such as Team Rubicon, where he recently assisted with feeding operations in response to COVID19.
Mr. Killoy was originally from the East Coast and relocated to Cortez, Colorado in 2017 following a career in the U.S. Navy and the defense industry. He holds a MBA from the University of Maryland and an engineering degree from Cornell University. After earning his undergraduate degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy and spent four years at sea. Following his sea service, he worked in a series of technical and management positions in Naval shipbuilding with General Dynamics - Bath Iron Works Corporation. He earned his MBA at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland while working at the corporation’s Washington D.C. office supporting the Missile Defense National Team. After General Dynamics, Mr. Killoy was a civilian consultant with the Office of the Secretary of Defense staff at the Pentagon. He is still called upon occasionally to assist in developing and revising curriculum materials for the Defense Acquisition University.
In his new role, he will oversee disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts and will work closely with emergency managers to care for the needs of evacuees during and after a disaster. Meeting, planning and training for disasters with community organizations throughout the 11 counties of the Southwest and San Luis Valley regions will be one of his first priorities, as will recruiting and training a robust cadre of volunteers.
“The southwest territory is fortunate to have Sean on board,” said Sally Broomfield, Senior Disaster Program Manager. “His depth of knowledge, passion for the mission, and his willingness to work with our volunteers are already making a difference. I am excited to be working with him.
