The Red Cross Angels, an auxiliary support group working with the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross, closed its year with the installation of 2024-25 officers and the presentation of the Angel of Year Award.
Officers were installed at a May 9 luncheon at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club by Mike Brown, Regional CEO of the American Red Cross of Central Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They are President Joan Rhyne; Vice President Leslie Jennewein; Recording Secretary; Linda Murray; Corresponding Secretary Nancy Watkins; and Treasurer Glenda Barlow.
Rhyne, who also served as the 2023-24 president, thanked the members for a successful fundraising Silver Coffee, assistance with volunteer projects and a complete revision of the bylaws during the year.
She also presented the Angel of the Year Award to Immediate Past President Anne Cloar “for her continuing service to the Angels” – after having served two years as president – most of it during the Covid pandemic.
Banquet speaker Greg Scrivens, Red Cross Services to the Armed Forces Regional Program Director, explained the work of the organization with active-duty service personnel, families and veterans. Programs include volunteer greeters at base medical clinics, baby gifts and supplies for military expectant mothers, and volunteer programs in VA hospitals.
“What the Red Cross Angels do helps make this all possible,” he said.
Robb Resler, Red Cross Regional Senior Philanthropy Partner, served as the emcee for the program and praised the all-volunteer Angels organization and its work.
“The current leadership has been terrific,” he said. “For the past 43 years the Angels have carried the torch of leadership.”
