Special Events Planned throughout 2017 in Celebration of Milestone

The new year marks a major milestone for the American Red Cross in Tennessee. The humanitarian organization will celebrate a century of service in the volunteer state in 2017.

“Since we were chartered in 1917, we have helped millions of people affected by local disasters including home fires, floods, tornadoes and seasonal emergencies” said Joel Sullivan, Regional Executive of the Tennessee Region of the American Red Cross. “From health and safety classes, to lifesaving blood collection and support of military members, their families and veterans, the Red Cross has helped make our community safer and more prepared for what may come in the next 100 years.”

The Red Cross will celebrate its Centennial all year with events across the region, including an art exhibit at the Nashville International Airport, a community bike race in partnership with USA Cycling and Visit Knoxville and the opening of a 100 year old time capsule in Memphis. Additionally, the Tennessee Region of the Red Cross will host fundraising events in each of its eight chapters, highlighting the many services provided by the Red Cross in Tennessee while raising the financial resources necessary to carry out its mission.

The Tennessee Region of the American Red Cross serves all 95 counties in Tennessee, as well as Crittenden County in Arkansas and Desoto and Tunica counties in Mississippi.
