Grand Junction, CO, Aug 6, 2025 – As wildfires such as the Lee and Elk Fires continue to burn across the Western Slope, causing road closures and other disruptions, the American Red Cross of Western Colorado has opened shelters at the Moffat County High School: 900 Finley Lane, Craig, CO and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: 125 Eagle Crest Drive, Rangely, CO to provide a safe place to spend the night.
Volunteers are providing refuge, sharing information and helping with immediate needs. The shelter also provides food, water, medical care, and mental health support.
Red Cross shelters are open to everyone in need, regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or citizenship status, and all disaster assistance is free. We don’t require people to show any kind of identification to enter a shelter, just their name and where they have been living.
Now is the time to prepare to evacuate. Are you wildfire ready? Make a plan and be prepared by visiting: http://redcross.org/wildfire
