DENVER, Colo. (Dec. 19, 2025) – Extreme wind and critically dry conditions are causing extreme fire danger in the foothills of the Front Range. Communities in Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties are without power due either to damaged power lines — the result of significant wind storms — or proactive public safety power shutoffs. The American Red Cross of Colorado and its partners at Xcel Energy are assisting those impacted by these power disruptions.
Charging centers, with heat, electricity and running water, are open across the impacted areas and people can come and go to receive assistance and information. On Dec. 19 and 20, 2025, the following facilities will be open to the public:
* Pet-friendly facility
Volunteers are providing assistance with immediate needs, support and information. Food and water are available at the shelter, as are medical services and mental health services. Locations open 24 hours have sleeping areas available, which can be helpful for those who require medical devices that need power. Charging centers will remain open as long as the power outages exist and hours will be updated.
Red Cross facilities are open to everyone in need, regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation or citizenship status, and all disaster assistance is free. We don’t require people to show any kind of identification to enter a shelter, just their name and where they have been living.
The Red Cross also encourages everyone to download the free Red Cross Emergency App to help monitor hazards and find safety information. You can find the Emergency App by searching "American Red Cross" in your app store or by visiting www.redcross.org/apps.
