DURANGO, Colo. (Oct. 22, 2026) – The American Red Cross of Western Colorado has opened evacuation shelters at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave., Durango, Colo., and the Pagosa Lakes Property HOA Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave., Pagosa Springs, Colo., following extreme, fast flooding and mandatory evacuations.
Volunteers are providing refuge, sharing information and helping with immediate needs. The evacuation center also provides food, water, medical care and mental health support. This shelter is pet-friendly.
Red Cross shelters are open to everyone in need, regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or citizenship status, and all disaster assistance is free. We don’t require people to show any kind of identification to enter a shelter, just their name and where they have been living.
Rain and storms continue to be in the forecast in parts of western Colorado through Friday. Stay weather aware and ready for possible flooding: check alerts, avoid flooded roads and keep your go kit handy. Learn more by visiting www.redcross.org/flood.
