When disasters strike, it’s comforting to know there are people who spring into action to restore what nature has torn asunder.
It’s why the American Red Cross and National Grid have partnered together to help prepare Massachusetts residents for both small and large disasters. National Grid is a partner in the Home Fire Campaign, a program created to install smoke detectors in homes across the United States to reduce the number of deaths related to home fires by 25 percent.
During a recent leadership training event in Boston, more than 100 managers from across the National Grid organization came together to build backpacks for Red Cross volunteers to use while installing smoke detectors in the city of Lawrence. During April 2017, Red Cross volunteers and corporate partners will fan out throughout Lawrence to make more than 250 home safer through education and smoke detector installation.
National Grid also presented the American Red Cross with a check for $5,000 in order for the American Red Cross of Massachusetts to secure carbon monoxide detectors for the Lawrence installations.
Seven times a day someone in this country dies in a fire. The Red Cross Home Fire Campaign aims to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by as much as 25 percent over the next few years. The Red Cross and thousands of campaign partners have helped save numerous lives and installed more than a quarter of a million smoke alarms in homes all across the country since the campaign launched in October of 2014.
National Grid is a proud sponsor of the Home Fire Campaign Rally in Lawrence. Thanks to their generous financial support, and the physical support of readiness backpacks, National Grid and the American Red Cross aim to prepare Massachusetts residents for all disasters.
