Brockton, MA – “Black Excellence Is in Our Blood” is more than a mantra during Black History Month. Blood donations from individuals who are Black play a key role in meeting the broader transfusion needs of patients & those with sickle cell disease.

Worcester, MA – Craig Smith is a retired attorney who volunteers with the Red Cross teaching the ‘rules of war’ to students across Massachusetts. Craig helps bring knowledge about the mission and work the Red Cross brings during conflicts.
Plymouth, MA – Our Massachusetts Sound the Alarm events made more than 400 homes safer in 2024. Last year, a volunteer team installed alarms that saved a family in Boston.

Hyannis, MA – Rita Schmid grew up in Germany, immigrated to the U.S. and became a nurse with the Red Cross in San Francisco. Rita still proudly shows her Red Cross pin she wore so many years ago.
Westport, MA – When national disasters strike, Massachusetts volunteer answer the call. Hundreds of volunteers deployed across the nation to support disaster relief operations from Hawaii to Vermont.

Boston, MA - Jeffrey Sack began his blood-donor journey for the first time at Framingham North High School in 1983. 30 years later, Jeff made his 100th donation at the 9-11 Fenway Park drive. The drive collected more than 220 units of blood this year.

Chelsea, MA – When home fires force families from their homes, our volunteers are on call 24/7 to help give comfort. An August fire in Chelsea displaced nearly 50 people, bringing together city officials and other non-profits to lend support.

News Story: 26.2 Miles to Support the Red Cross Mission
Boston, MA – All those miles training help pushing the Red Cross mission forward. Our team of more than 60 runners raised more than $600K for our work when they ran the 2024 Boston Marathon.
Massachusetts – During volunteer appreciation month in March, Cumberland Farms and their parent company donate a portion of sales to support Red Cross missions, as well as offering a free cup of coffee to Red Cross volunteers.

North Andover, MA – Dianne and Ed Lynch lost their son Jack to cancer in 2006. For 17 years they have held a blood drive to keep his memory alive and help those in need of lifesaving blood.
Brockton, MA – Lilly Campbell makes and sells ‘Better Beads’ to raise awareness about Sickle Cell Disease, an illness that affects her older brother. Lilly, a 2024 Boston Hero was recognized for her work with a family trip to Disney.
