Red Cross Shelters Open to Assist Affected Residents
MEDFORD, Mass., March 14, 2018 – The American Red Cross of Massachusetts has shelters open today around southeast Massachusetts for residents without power after Tuesday’s winter storm.
Special note – the shelter in Hull, Mass., will be closing today. Residents without power in that area are advised to go to the Red Cross shelter located at Plymouth North High School, 41 Obery St. in Plymouth.
The Red Cross opened shelters across the eastern Massachusetts Tuesday as Winter Storm Skylar impacted New England. At the storms peek, more than 200,000 homes and businesses in Massachusetts were without power. Shelters are open to provide warmth, lodging and hot food to residents without power. Nearly 200 Massachusetts residents spent Tuesday night in shelters across the state.

Fall River – Kuss Middle School, 52 Globe Mills Ave.
Plymouth – Plymouth North High School, 41 Obery St.
Sandwich – Sandwich High School, 365 Quaker Meeting House Road
Harwich – Cape Cod Technical High School, 351 Pleasant Lake Ave.
Hyannis – Barnstable Intermediate School, 895 Falmouth Road
Red Cross volunteers from as far away as California and Florida are staffing emergency shelters here in Massachusetts. So far more than 200 Red Cross volunteers have mobilized to support storm relief efforts since Winter Storm Riley impacted coastal New England March 2nd. The Red Cross has distributed more than 4,000 relief and clean-up supplies to coastal residents who were impacted by flooding.
The Red Cross in conjunction with the Salvation Army will be opening Service Centers in Quincy and Peabody to distribute clean-up and relief supplies to residents affected by coastal flooding. Volunteers will also be doing disaster assessment for financial relief. More than 150 families have received assistance from state and local agencies and non-profits due to coastal flooding.
