PORTLAND – The generosity of donors made it possible for the American Red Cross in Maine to deliver services to hundreds of families confronted with emergencies over the past year.
In Fiscal Year 2019, Maine Red Crossers responded to disasters, made homes safer through free smoke alarms and preparedness education, delivered blood to patients in need, trained people in lifesaving skills, furthered disease prevention efforts and more
“The dedication of our financial donors and partners is essential for the Red Cross to fulfill its humanitarian mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies,” said Patricia Murtagh, CEO of the Maine Region of the Red Cross. “We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their support. It’s what allows the Red Cross to be there for people in need, down the street, around the state and across the country.”
In the fiscal year that ends June 30, 2019, Maine Red Crossers responded to hundreds of local home fires and other disasters, installed thousands of free smoke alarms in Maine homes, provided disaster preparedness education to hundreds of Mainers, supported the collection of tens of thousands of units of blood in the state and deployed to major disasters including Hurricanes Michael and Florence, historic flooding in the Midwest, wildfires in the West and tornado-affected areas in the South.
“Thanks to our donors, the Red Cross is able to turn compassion into action, around the clock, every day of the year,” said Scott Carter, chairman of the Maine Region Board of Directors. “We have a truly caring community here in Maine that understands the critical role of the Red Cross and steps up to support the people we serve.”
Special thanks to the following donors for their generous support in Fiscal Year 2019:
