As much of Northeast was awaiting landfall of Tropical Storm Henri, torrential rainfall pounded portions of New Jersey. Especially hard hit was Middlesex County, causing neighborhoods in towns like Helmetta, Monroe, Jamesburg and Spotswood to flood. Numerous water rescues occurred.
RED CROSS RESPONSE To help those affected by Henri, the American Red Cross is focused on providing people with a safe place to stay, food to eat, emotional support and health services.
As the flood waters receded, people began the difficult task of cleaning up their homes and neighborhoods. The Red Cross is there, working closely with officials and partners to make sure people get the help they need.
The American Red Cross is out in communities in Middlesex County that were impacted by the flooding from Henri. Teams of volunteers are driving Emergency Response Vehichles (ERVs) and distributing clean-up supplies through heavily affected neighborhoods like Monroe, Helmetta, Spotswood and Jamesburg.
Red Cross volunteers have also been on hand at the Community Center in Helmetta, feeding those affected and distributing clean-up supplies at this location.
A Multi Agency Resource Center (MARC) was available to those affected at the Helmetta Community Center. In addition to the Red Cross, partner resources included service agencies such as the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, along with other local and government partners. An additional MARC will be held in Monroe on Friday. Responding to disasters is a team effort and no single organization can do it alone — particularly in this current environment.
