JERSEY CITY, NJ, January 20, 2023 — Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, an American syndicated weekday morning radio program hosted by Elvis Duran, is sponsoring a blood drive to encourage blood donations to help ensure a stable blood supply amid the threat of icy winter weather and severe seasonal illness.
“The start of the new year is one of the most challenging times to collect blood products as severe winter weather often causes widespread blood drive cancellations and donors may postpone giving due to illness,” said Rosie Taravella, CEO, American Red Cross New Jersey Region. “We appreciate Elvis Duran and the Morning Show stepping forward to help patients in need by sharing the importance of blood and platelet donation during this time.”
The community blood drive will take place on Thursday, January 26, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Manhattan Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 2 Exchange Place, Jersey City, New Jersey. Use of the Manhattan Ballroom is generously being donated by the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Elvis Duran and the Morning Show is offering presenting donors at the blood drive the chance to win two (2) premium tickets to the 2023 Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden.
Donors of all blood types – particularly type O blood donors, the most needed blood group by hospitals – and platelet donors are needed daily to meet demand. To schedule an appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code ELVIS, call 1-800-RED CROSS or download the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
In addition, the American Red Cross and the National Football League (NFL) are partnering this January during National Blood Donor Month to invite football fans and blood donors to join a lifesaving team and score big for patients in need. All who come to give Jan. 1-31, 2023, will be automatically entered to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona. Details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/SuperBowl.
Throughout National Blood Donor Month in Northern and Central New Jersey, presenting donors also receive a $5 Dunkin’ gift card to help encourage individuals to roll up their sleeves and give blood or platelets.
How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
