CARNEYS POINT, NJ, October 30, 2021 – The American Red Cross, in partnership with local officials, has opened a shelter in Salem County for people affected by flooding caused by last evening’s storm. Red Cross workers are providing a warm, safe place to sleep, meals and emotional support for those with immediate, disaster-caused needs.

As of 6:00 p.m. this evening, the following Red Cross shelter is open:

Salem Community College

Davidow Hall

460 Hollywood Avenue

Carneys Point, NJ  08069

Anyone evacuating to a Red Cross shelter should bring essential items for each member of the family:

• Face coverings - masks must be worn by all inside the shelter, regardless of vaccination status
• Prescriptions and emergency medications
• Foods that meet unusual dietary requirements
• Identification to show residence is in affected area and important personal documents
• Extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies and other comfort items
• Supplies needed for children and infants, such as diapers, formula and toys
• Special items for family members who are elderly or disabled
• Chargers for any electronic devices you bring with you
• Books, games and other ways to entertain your family and yourself
• Note – Public health regulations do not permit pets in shelters; service animals are permitted.

All emergency assistance is free to those affected by disasters and is made possible through the donation of time by dedicated Red Cross volunteers and the generosity of the American public.
