Peggy Mulrenin is a retired Chemist and a Volunteer from our Piedmont Triad chapter. She first started with the Red Cross by donating blood. That quickly turned into volunteering at blood drives by checking people in, and becoming a Blood Donor Ambassador. A few months ago, she became a Blood Transportation Specialist in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
“I’m motivated by doing things that I enjoy and being able to help the world at large. If I have a skill that can help the Red Cross, then I would like to utilize those to help communities and people” said Peggy.
Although she says she doesn’t have previous experience in the health service field, Peggy spends every other Friday “driving hospital routes, transporting blood products to the hospitals in the area”. Her active participation runs deep, and she is hoping to expand her time with the Red Cross by becoming a part of the Disaster Action team. She says volunteering “has allowed me to meet and connect with more people while I help”.
When Peggy is not volunteering she’s an avid runner, and part of a quilting guild in town that donates handmade quilts to premature babies at Brenner´s hospital, Pre-K students and senior citizens.
“Women bring many different perspectives, just as men do and we are all in this together to assist those in need” said Peggy. “If someone is hesitant about joining the American Red Cross, then I would encourage you to try, because it’s very fulfilling and it’s for a great cause”. Peggie invites all to “help and support other women in their respective passions”.
Support all the urgent humanitarian needs of the American Red Cross.
