Responding to Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, the Red Cross has adapted to the specific needs of this region by connecting with local community partners to deliver our mission and needed emergency supplies. It was our goal to make sure we showed up where people needed us the most with the supplies, they needed the most. Internally we have been calling this project "Mountain Hope."
A couple of days ago, artist and Red Crosser Rob Wisniewski from Iowa, who has been deployed in WNC after the Hurricane, was approached about painting a mural at our Asheville headquarters.
After a couple of long days, and help from fellow Red Crosser and local resident Kelly Ferrell, the mural was completed and our Western North Carolina Chapter will have a permanent reminder of our efforts during this important moment in time.
Thank you to Rob and Kelly, and thank you to the nearly 2,300 volunteers that came from all over the country and the world to help deliver on our mission to serve the people of Western North Carolina.
The Red Cross has been in this area for over 100 years, and we will be here long after we recover from Hurricane Helene.
