DURHAM, N.C. (July 9, 2025) — On July 6, Tropical Storm Chantal moved through North Carolina, impacting Alamance, Durham, Chatham, Lee, Moore, Orange and Person counties.
“Our hearts are with everyone impacted by Tropical Storm Chantal,” said Allison Taylor, regional chief executive officer of the American Red Cross North Carolina. “We are incredibly grateful for the tireless efforts of our volunteers, local emergency management teams and community partners who have come together to support families in need. This collaboration is vital as we continue to assess damage, distribute emergency supplies and provide shelter and comfort to those affected.”
In some areas, homes were evacuated due to flash flooding. American Red Cross volunteers and response teams have been in the field since early Monday morning to assess areas with possible damage.
The Red Cross has distributed emergency supplies, including water and cleanup materials to families, and has assessed damage to more than 60 homes in the affected areas so far.
Teams continue to conduct assessments and distribute emergency supplies in the community.
At this time, the Red Cross is supporting the Orange County emergency shelter at Smith Middle School, 9201 Seawell School Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Anyone affected by the recent storm is welcome, and services are free to the community.
The Red Cross is working closely with emergency management, community partners and local officials to provide aid, support and shelter to those needing assistance and to determine additional needs.
Anyone seeking assistance should contact 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
