The American Red Cross serving Kansas and Oklahoma announces the hiring of Preston James as the Service to the Armed Forces Director. James will be based in the Oklahoma City office but will cover the two-state region.
James comes to the Red Cross after working in municipal public safety for more than 15 years and brings a wealth of experience in community outreach.
He has held many different positions including: Community Relations Specialist, Police & Corrections Officer. During his time in law enforcement he served as a Hostage Negotiator for the Champaign County Metro Team, a Crisis Intervention team member, the Neighborhood Watch Coordinator, Risk Watch Trainer and numerous other community functions. James was instrumental in developing and building resiliency programs for the City of Urbana focused on increasing community awareness around crime and at-risk youth.
James served in the United States Army where he graduated as the Distinguished Honor Graduate and completed his service with an Honorable Discharge. He graduated from John A. Logan Jr. College and has received numerous certifications.
“It’s a pleasure to join the Kansas/Oklahoma Red Cross Team and help further the mission of the Red Cross and serving our Service to the Armed Forces team,” James said. “I’ve always lived a life of service and this was a perfect step for me and my family. I can’t wait jump in and help make the team even stronger as we strive to serve those in communities across our region. ”
Outside of work, James has volunteered his time serving in a multitude of leadership positions with Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, Emergency Services Support Team, Booster Club to name a few organizations.
In his free time, James enjoys sports and grilling. The James family has moved back to the Oklahoma area after spending time in Illinois.
