It is with great appreciation and admiration that we recognize Whitney McCarthy Spirit as the recipient of the Spirit of the Pacific Award. This honor is presented to individuals whose service reflects the highest standards of professionalism, leadership, and compassion.

During her assignment responding to the impact of a tornado in the greater St. Louis area, Whitney served as a Disaster Spiritual Care provider, initially working alongside Laura Parsons before stepping into the role of acting manager. In both capacities, she consistently demonstrated exceptional maturity, insight, and dedication to the mission.

Her calm and steady presence was matched by initiative and professionalism. She played a key role in orienting two incoming responders to their shelter assignments, a complex responsibility given the geographic distribution of shelters across the St. Louis area. Her ability to guide others with clarity and care ensured effective operations and strengthened team cohesion.

Her capability and commitment were further recognized when she was selected to collaborate with Disaster Mental Health on urgent, high-priority calls during shelter closures. This assignment reflected not only her skill but also the confidence and trust placed in her by peers and leadership.

Throughout her service, Whitney exemplified the qualities that define the Spirit of the Pacific: compassion in action, leadership rooted in collaboration, and unwavering dedication to the mission of the American Red Cross. She is regarded as an invaluable asset to the organization, and a shining example of the impact one individual can have on colleagues, clients, and the broader community.
