[PITTSBURGH, DEC. 12, 2022] — The American Red Cross opened an emergency shelter in response to evacuations from a 5-alarm apartment building fire in downtown Pittsburgh. The shelter is located at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center (1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15222). Approximately 75 displaced residents and one pet sought shelter at the convention center overnight.
Local officials evacuated more than 100 residents from the Roosevelt Building (607 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15222) Sunday night. Displaced residents may seek shelter at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and receive support, information and meals in a warm and safe location. The Red Cross helps anyone in need after a disaster and all disaster assistance is free.
The Salvation Army is assisting the Red Cross disaster volunteers this morning. The Red Cross will continue to work with community partners and local officials to determine community needs and establish next steps.
