COLUMBIA, S.C., November 28, 2022 – 2022 has been a year of crisis for families in South Carolina and around the world — from extreme climate disasters to global emergencies like the conflict in Ukraine to the first-ever national American Red Cross blood crisis. On Giving Tuesday, Jim Hudson Automotive Group will match all donations to the Red Cross of South Carolina up to $30,000 to help ensure no one faces a crisis alone.
"Whether a crisis is felt by an entire community or a single person, it turns lives upside down — especially for the most vulnerable," said Rod Tolbert, Chief Executive Officer for the American Red Cross of South Carolina. "Generous partners like Jim Hudson Automotive Group have never been more vital to support our communities and make them more resilient to disasters like home fires and increasingly extreme weather events."
Last year alone, the Red Cross of South Carolina responded to more than 1,700 disasters, assisting 5,769 people. Support from partners like Jim Hudson and other dedicated donors means the Red Cross can stand with survivors as they begin to recover and help families and communities become better prepared and more resilient whenever and wherever disaster strikes.
"At Jim Hudson Automotive Group, we recognize the need to help our neighbors dealing with natural disasters, home fires, the need for blood, and so many other devastating emergencies," said Keith Hudson, President of Jim Hudson Automotive Group. "We are proud of the critical relief work the American Red Cross provides to millions globally and are honored to support our neighbors in South Carolina and across the country. This holiday season, join us to provide help and hope or people in need during future emergencies by making a financial donation to the American Red Cross."
This year's extreme disasters in the U.S. are clear examples of the increasing frequency and intensity of the climate crisis. So far, in 2022, 15 billion-dollar disasters have upended lives across the country — more than twice the number of billion-dollar disasters that struck annually two decades ago. For these and
thousands of other disasters in South Carolina and throughout the United States, Red Cross volunteers have worked 24/7 to provide shelter, food, and care — including the more than 125 volunteers from the South Carolina Region who deployed to help with disaster relief efforts from coast to coast.
YOU CAN HELP Whether a home fire affects one family down the street or a hurricane impacts millions,
the American Red Cross must be ready to provide immediate care and comfort to anyone in need. Throughout the holiday season, gifts of any size help the American Red Cross deliver its humanitarian mission and ensure people can continue to turn to the Red Cross for help and hope—when it's needed most. On Giving Tuesday, visit redcross.org or call 1-800 REDCROSS to donate.
