In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to celebrate Red Cross volunteer, Oluwatimileyin Adebanjo from the Permian Basin Chapter.
Oluwatimileyin Adebanjo first connected with the Red Cross shortly after moving to the United States. Having known the organization since childhood, she was drawn to its longstanding reputation for compassion and community care. She shared, “The American Red Cross is known for being selfless and caring. I feel very privileged to be a part of that. I can help and do something important. Volunteering makes me feel good.”
Originally from Nigeria, Oluwatimileyin Adebanjo volunteers with the Odessa Chapter, supporting the media team entirely from home so she can balance volunteering alongside caring for her children. As a Media Relations Volunteer, she helps share the stories of the Red Cross through social media. Since early 2024, she has been an enthusiastic voice helping highlight local events and promoting the mission of the Red Cross. She says that every time she receives a new Red Cross assignment, especially a post to publish, she feels eager to post it the next day. “I feel happy and privileged to publish about an event and showcase the work we’ve done.”
Oluwatimileyin hopes to seek out even more opportunities with the Red Cross in the future, especially as her children grow. Her advice for others wanting to volunteer: “Search your mind and be sure you’re volunteering because you want to. Be genuine. Acts of service are a love language … they make people happy and create an impact for society.”
Thank you, Oluwatimileyin, for your commitment to storytelling, service and community. We are grateful to have you as part of the Red Cross family.
