October 13, 2023 — San Antonio, TX The American Red Cross Greater San Antonio Chapter is pleased to announce the appointment of Karina C. Alderete as the Chair of the Greater San Antonio Chapter Board of Directors. She is the first Latina to be appointed board chair in the chapter’s history.
"I am thrilled to welcome Karina’s leadership skills to our board of directors," said Dr. Daniel P. Martinez, Executive Director for the American Red Cross Greater San Antonio Chapter. "Karina has demonstrated incredible dedication and leadership through different associations in her career, and I look forward to her continued support in the ongoing mission of the American Red Cross in this new role."
Karina Alderete's background is marked by a distinguished career. Since March 2020, she has been at the helm of corporate communications, including brand sponsorships and employee volunteerism, for Broadway Bank. Her impressive journey spans 24 years in brand marketing and communications, with significant roles in hospitality and retail for prominent organizations such as Whataburger, H-E-B, and the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau. Her career commenced as a news producer at WOAI-TV after graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in Film & Television and a minor in Spanish. Karina furthered her education by earning a master’s degree in professional studies in Strategic Public Relations from George Washington University and is an alumnus of Leadership San Antonio Class 42. She is also in the North San Antonio Chamber’s Leadership Lab Class of 2023 and serves in the King William Association’s Cultural Arts Committee.

The Greater San Antonio Chapter also welcomes the addition of two distinguished members to its executive committee. Joining is Jason Massiatte, who serves as the Vice President of the committee and Regional Vice President of Ward North American Van Lines, bringing a wealth of expertise to the leadership team. Michelle Martinez, a seasoned professional and the owner of Michelle Martinez Communications assumes the role of Secretary, further bolstering the committee's capabilities. Their unique skills and experiences will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success of the Greater San Antonio Chapter and its mission to serve the community.
