March 17, 2025, Kerrville, TX – American Red Cross volunteers are working around the clock to support those affected by the Crabapple Fire. Over the weekend, Red Cross teams quickly opened a shelter at Zion Lutheran Church at 426 W Main St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624, for anyone impacted by the fire, ensuring they have a safe place to stay and access to essential services.
Together with our partners, we provide shelter, food, water, health services, emotional support, and spiritual care. Our teams are also offering information on disaster-related resources in the community, helping those affected take the next steps toward recovery. Red Cross shelters are open to everyone, and all disaster assistance is free. Anyone with a disaster-related need is welcome, even if they do not require overnight shelter.

Wildfires can spread rapidly, so preparation is key. It’s important to have a go-kit with at least three days of supplies and a clear plan for where to go, how to get there, and where to stay. Everyone in the household should be familiar with multiple escape routes from home and the surrounding community. Understanding how local emergency officials will respond to a wildfire can also help families stay safe. More wildfire preparedness tips and resources are available at redcross.org/wildfire.
