National Youth Involvement Month

American Red Cross Youth is excited to announce the theme for National Youth Involvement Month (NYIM) 2025: Red Cross in Motion! Join us as we discuss all the ways you can get involved in active change throughout the Red Cross.  

What is National Youth Involvement Month?

National Youth Involvement Month, taking place every November, is one of the most youth-focused initiatives the Red Cross holds every year. Through frequent virtual events, young volunteers learn about how they can increase their Red Cross involvement, network with their fellow volunteers, and build their own ideas to spearhead lasting change and progress through their volunteer position, service and beyond.  

Benefits of Getting Involved During NYIM
  • More events attended = higher chances of winning prizes! 
  • Network with other youth volunteers, regional youth leaders, the National Youth Council, Youth and Young Adult Ambassadors, International Humanitarian Law Summit Attendees, and more! 
  • Learn about scholarship opportunities, how to get involved with different lines of services, and spearheading your own initiatives!
  • Receive volunteer hours for attending EACH event!

3 WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:

📲Emergency App Quest 

 

How it Works:

  • Participants will sign up as an individual or club to receive a unique referral link.
  • Participants will encourage friends, family, classmates, and neighbors to download the free Emergency App.
  • Top 5 individuals and groups with the most apps downloaded will receive prizes!


Goal: 

  • To bring awareness about the Emergency App so that communities can stay informed, prepared, and safe!


Prizes:

  • Red Cross collegiate insulated water bottle for the first 10 participants.
  • Emergency App t-shirt and first aid kids for the top 5 individuals AND top 5 clubs.

🚶‍♀️Miles for Relief

 

How it Works:

  • Participants will sign up as an individual or club to create a fundraising page. 
  • Participants will collect donations from family, friends, and community members between November and January using their unique campaign link.
  • Participants will commit to walking individually or with their group at the end of the campaign. The more money raised, the more miles committed. 
  • Top 5 individuals and top 3 groups with the most funds raised will receive prizes!


Goal: 

  • Every day, over 25,000 people turn to the American Red Cross for shelter, comfort, and hope during times of crisis. Through the Miles for Relief campaign, youth volunteers across the country are stepping up — literally — to support families affected by disasters. 


Prizes:

  • Red Cross collegiate insulated water bottle for the first 10 participants to create their campaign page.
  • More prize information to come!

💻Virtual Events


How it Works:

  • Log into Volunteer Connection, go to "My Shifts", open "Youth and Young Adult Events".
  • Explore and register for any and all events that spark your interest! 


Goal: 

  • The National Youth Council will provide opportunities for participants to make connections with other youth and young adult volunteers, teach you ways to maximize your impact in your community, and provide more opportunties to get involved! 


Prizes:

  • Opportunity drawing for Red Cross merch during each event!

    Kick off NYIM and learn how you can lead through our Miles for Relief fundraiser, Emergency App Quest challenge, and more!
  • November 5, 8 p.m. ET | How to Engage your Red Cross Chapter
    Discover ways to maximize your club’s impact with tips from successful club leadership.
  • November 6, 8 p.m . ET | Miles for Relief and Emergency App Quest Challenge
    Find out how to make a direct impact and get involved in our fundraising and emergency preparedness campaigns.
  • November 8, 3 p.m. ET | Movement for Thought - Biomedical Services
    Learn how to get involved with Biomedical Services, including programs like Leaders Save Lives, scholarships, and virtual opportunities.
Week 2: MISSION IMPACT WITHIN THE RED CROSS

 

  • November 9, 7 p.m. ET | Week 2 Kick-Off + Mixer
    Celebrate your first week’s wins, meet new Red Cross friends, ask campaign questions, and gear up for another week of impact!
  • November 10, 7 p.m. ET | Red Cross Eras Tour: Youth Leaders Across the Country
    Meet youth leaders from across the country, learn about the projects they have spearheaded, and gain advice on creating your own projects.
  • November 14, 8 p.m. ET | Blood Drive 101: Blood Diversity + Leading a Successful Drive
    Discover tips for hosting successful blood drives and explore scholarship opportunities through past recipients.
  • November 15, 3 p.m. ET | Movement for Thought - Training Services
    Meet an impactful American Red Cross guest speaker and have the opportunity to ask questions and build connections.
Week 3: MOVEMENT FOR RELIEF

 

  • November 16, 7 p.m. ET | Week 3 Kick-Off + Mixer
    Wrap up Week 2, share campaign progress, and connect with other changemakers across the Red Cross.
  • Nov 19 5 p.m. ET | Disaster Speaks Panel
    Get inspired by experts in disaster relief and learn how youth can step up during emergencies.
  • November 21, 8 p.m. ET | Youth in Action!
    Map disaster-prone areas and learn how youth are shaping humanitarian work worldwide - and how you can get involved.
  • November 22, 3 p.m. ET | Movement for Thought - IS/SAF
    Meet an impactful American Red Cross guest speaker and have the opportunity to ask questions and build connections.
Week 4: UNITED THROUGH MOVEMENT

 

  • November 23, 7 p.m. ET | Week 4 Kick-Off + Mixer
    Celebrate your momentum, connect with peers, ask campaign questions, play fun games, and get ready for week 4 of NYIM!
  • November 24, 8 p.m. ET | Bonds Within the Red Cross
    Learn from regional youth executive board members about fostering community and leadership across the United States.
  • November 30, 7 p.m. ET | NYIM WRAPPED!
    Celebrate your achievements and share your impact from NYIM 2025! The winners of our events attendance competitions will be announced.
