More than 130 years ago, Clara Barton established the American Red Cross by engaging talented, committed and compassionate women dedicated to saving lives. In 2006, her legacy continued when the Tiffany Circle was formed to unite and engage a group of generous and highly-involved women to continue to ensure that the Red Cross has the ability to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to life's emergencies. The Tiffany Circle takes its name from the historic stained glass windows in the Board of Governors Hall at Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. Installed in 1917, the windows were commissioned from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Studios. The windows cost $10,000 and were jointly purchased by the women of the north and women of the south as an act of reconciliation and hope. Tiffany Circle members from across the country, each donate $10,000 or more annually to support the American Red Cross.

The British Red Cross has a long history of women playing a key role, in the field and through leadership, to improve the lives of those in need. They include Florence Nightingale and Dame Claire Bertschinger DL, the nurse who brought the Ethiopian famine of the 1980’s to the world’s attention and inspired Live Aid. The Tiffany Circle continues this impressive legacy.
Inspired by the successful Circles in America and Canada, the British Red Cross officially launched its Tiffany Circle with eight founding members in September 2012. The British Circle is based on values of 'Collaboration, Compassion, Generosity,' and their focus is on supporting the most vulnerable people in the most vulnerable places around the world. This includes: refugees and victims of trafficking in the UK, women and children overseas, and people living in countries at high risk of natural disaster and conflict.

More than 100 years ago, Lady Helen Munro Ferguson established Australian Red Cross by engaging talented, committed and compassionate women dedicated to a lifesaving mission. In 2014, her tradition continued when the Society of Women Leaders was formed to unite and engage a group of generous and highly involved women.
The Society of Women Leaders mobilises the power of women in philanthropy to benefit the most disadvantaged in our communities. Since its inception, the group has worked to effect change through financial and hands-on involvement in Red Cross programs, including the Young Parents Program, which works to improve the capacity of young parents, RespectED, a family and community violence prevention program, and through funding for a female International Aid Delegate.
Working together, the Members of the Society of Women Leaders have a say in how their gifts are used, allowing them to effect change in areas that are close to their heart.

The Netherlands Tiffany Circle, Society of Women Leaders was founded in May 2016. Currently sixteen members have joined the Circle with additional women signing up after each get together. Our mission is to enable sustainable change and to help improve the lives of the women in the most vulnerable situations in our communities, be they in our own country or anywhere around the world. Our vision is based on the belief that investments in the situation of these women will create greater social impact because a woman’s improved situation will bring about a positive impact on herself, her children and surroundings as well (1 + 1 = 3). The Circle has chosen to support three projects, one in the Netherlands, one in Zambia and another in Haiti. All projects empower women to become more self-reliant and more resilient. Our projects are designed in close co-operation with local women and based on their needs.
We have been very fortunate to have the support of Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet, who has a longtime history with the Red Cross. With her tireless dedication to the Red Cross, she is an inspiration for many people. We are therefore very grateful that she is a member of our Board of Recommendation. Other members are Inge Brakman, former Chairman of the Netherlands Red Cross and Thea Hilhorst, Professor Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction IISS.

Geneva, Switzerland was the historic site of the 2018 Tiffany Circle International Forum. The Swiss Red Cross was critical in assisting the international societies in planning and gathering information, making the Forum an educational journey on the work of the Red Cross across the globe. Shortly after attending the Forum, the Swiss Red Cross announced their very first member, and have become an active participant in monthly Council calls to learn and grow. The Circle has now 15 members and has chosen to support two projects, one in Switzerland, the other in Syria which empower women to become more self-reliant.
As part of its international commitment, Tiffany Circle Switzerland has taken on the mission of providing help and support to vulnerable women in Syria. A country where the scars of war are still so strong. A country where there is so much to rebuild. Buying back livestock, re-launching family farms, coaching women to create dairy products to sell, allowing these communities to become autonomous again, this is what the commitment of Tiffany Circle Switzerland will provide.
In parallel, on a Swiss scale, our project is to develop legal support allowing migrants to reunite with loved ones from whom they were separated during their migration.
