The Home Fire Campaign helps save lives by installing free smoke alarms in homes that don't have them, and by educating people about home fire safety.
Want to learn about how to make your home safer and/or request a free smoke alarm?
The Red Cross and its partners are pleased to offer virtual education sessions on Home Fire Safety for residents of the Alabama-Mississippi Region from the comfort of your home. In addition to learning what actions you can take to keep you and your loved ones safe during our 20-minute fire safety and prevention education program, you will also have the opportunity to request a free smoke alarm installation visit. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not able to offer smoke alarm installations in all areas at this time. If your area is not currently served by one of our installation partners we will contact you to schedule an installation appointment as soon as it is safe for us to do so.
SAFETY FIRST! As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the Red Cross is adapting Sound the Alarm activities to protect the people we serve and our volunteers. Sound the Alarm may look different this year but our lifesaving mission to make families and communities safer from home fire continues.
In a Home Fire, Can Your Family Safely Escape in Just 2 Minutes?
Prepare, respond and help families recover from home fires.
1. The Red Cross and its partners can test existing smoke alarms and install up to three free smoke alarms for those that need them.
2. The Alabama-Mississippi Region will provide installation services in Alabama only. Requests will be fulfilled as resources allow, with priority given to requests during National Sound the Alarm events. If you live outside of this area and would like to identify your local region office, please visit Redcross.org (or call 1-800-REDCROSS).
3. If you are able to purchase and install your own smoke alarm but would like information on home fire safety and smoke alarm installation, please visit Redcross.org/fire.
