ANCHORAGE, AUGUST 17, 2023 — The American Red Cross of Alaska hosts the second annual David Lawer Memorial “Swing for Relief” Golf Tournament Friday, August 18, at the Anchorage Golf Course.
In light of the recent flooding in Juneau and wildfires in Hawaii, this year’s tournament will raise funds in support of disaster relief. The Red Cross must be ready for every disaster, regardless of its size. The Red Cross counts on the generosity of our donors, whose support of Disaster Relief enables them to be there for those they serve.
“Our hearts go out to our friends and neighbors who were impacted by both the flooding in Juneau and the wildfires in Hawaii.’ said Tanguy Libbrecht, CEO American Red Cross of Alaska “Because these disasters can happen anytime, anywhere, please consider supporting disaster relief by making a donation or becoming a Red Cross volunteer today.”
Last year's tournament raised over $75,000 for a new emergency response vehicle (ERV). The new ERV allows Red Cross volunteers to respond to disasters such as flooding, home fires and earthquakes: providing food, cleanup kits, and delivering emergency supplies.
The tournament’s namesake, Dave Lawer, was a former board member and longtime supporter of the American Red Cross of Alaska. The Red Cross of Alaska has enjoyed generations of support from the Cuddy and Lawer families and Betsy Lawer previously served on the board along with her sister Jane and brother David. The Red Cross is proud to recognize Dave and his commitment to disaster relief by naming the golf tournament in his honor.
