Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services, always with the aim of preventing and alleviating suffering.
People in the Dakotas Region are served through more than 500 active volunteers that provide the following services:
Immediate, short-term disaster assistance for victims of fires, floods, winter and summer storms and other natural or man-made disasters
Community disaster education
Safety classes for adults and youth
Emergency kits and supplies
International communication to locate family members separated by disaster or warfare
Emergency communication for military families
The chapter also mobilizes local volunteers and resources to help respond to disasters across the nation.
The American Red Cross has 5 office locations throughout the Dakotas Region and numerous sites where we offer classes or have area disaster staff/resources.
