Look for live coverage starting at 5:00 a.m. on Wake Up 2Day and updates during KHON2 News at 5p.m., World Report and KHON2 News at 6 p.m. The telethon will be hosted by Living808’s Trini Kaopuiki. Celebrity guests include: Frank DeLima, Sam Choy, Miss Hawaii USA, Julie Kuo, Tony Silva, Kaleo Pilanca, Miss Hawaii Allison Chu, and Hawaii CW Star, Mikey Moniz.
When disasters strike, the people of Hawaii know the Red Cross will be there to respond. The Red Cross is on call 24/7 and responds to disasters in Hawaii every 4 days. And even though they work side by side fire, police, military, and civil defense, Red Cross is not a government agency and does not receive any funding from the federal or state government for disaster operations.
The Hawaii Red Cross needs your help to raise much needed funds not only for disaster relief, but for a new Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) that is instrumental in almost every phase of disaster response — from prepositioning people, cots and blankets before a hurricane strikes, to distributing food and water following a brushfire, to providing a safe place for a Red Cross worker to offer physical and emotional support to a family following a home fire.
The Next Generation ERV has:
Greater versatility
Higher fuel efficiency
Lower maintenance costs
Improved storage capacity for food, water, and clean-up supplies
Enhanced ergonomic design
GPS and messaging system
WiFi hotspot
Back up camera
Tow hitch
Electrical power supply system
Interior client seating
Increased exterior lighting
The Red Cross relies on the aloha spirit of Hawaii’s people to deliver vital services to the community and contribute to the cause of humanity. Please kokua so Red Cross can fulfill its humanitarian mission for the next 100 years! For more information on the telethon go to: http://khon2.com/red-cross-telethon/
HECO, the sponsor for the telethon, has prepared the Handbook for Emergency Preparedness publication as a guide for you. It is available in English, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Ilocano, and Korean. The handbook will help you understand why power outages occur and more importantly, how to minimize the inconveniences and dangers they can cause.
