American Red Cross volunteers responded to multiple incidents this weekend. On Saturday, volunteers responded to a fire in Ewa Beach and Aiea and on Monday morning, volunteers responded to a fire in Waimanalo and residential flooding in Lanikai due to a water main break. Red Cross volunteers went to the scene of each disaster to ensure the immediate emergency needs of anyone affected, such as shelter, food and clothing, were met. Caseworkers will continue to follow up with the family to ensure their immediate needs are met, and to provide referrals to assist with their disaster recovery.
The Red Cross encourages all families to make a disaster plan to include an evacuation plan with two different routes of escape, a communications plan to help families reconnect after disaster and a disaster supplies kit that is readily available to aid in a quick evacuation. Information on developing a family plan is available to the public at www.redcross.org, or a brochure can be requested by calling 734-2101.
The Red Cross is not a government agency and depends on public contributions to help others. All Red Cross assistance to disaster victims is free.
