Caseworkers will be on-site at Marco Polo this week M-F from 6pm to 8pm to meet w/affected residents
The Hawaii Red Cross continues its response to the residential fire that occurred at the Marco Polo high-rise on Friday afternoon.
The Red Cross emergency shelter at Iolani School will closing today (Sunday) at 5pm. The Hawaii Red Cross thanks Iolani School for their generous hospitality in offering their facilities as an emergency shelter. The Red Cross had over 110 shelter registrants from Friday to Saturday. It remained open throughout Saturday evening with no population.
Red Cross caseworkers were at the emergency shelter site on Saturday and Sunday to initiate casework with residents affected by the fire. Caseworkers reached out to residents to assess their needs and will be on-site at Marco Polo this week Monday through Friday from 6pm to 8pm to do further casework.
As of Saturday, over 800 meals and snacks were provided by Red Cross canteen services to first responders and affected residents. Over 120 Red Cross health services contacts were made by volunteers, including assistance in refilling medical prescriptions and caring for infant and elderly residents. Over 250 mental health contacts were made by volunteers to provide emotional support in helping residents begin the process of recovering after this disaster.
