HONOLULU, HI- August 26, 2018: All Red Cross supported County evacuation centers have been closed and Red Cross volunteers are beginning to conduct preliminary damage assessment in the hardest hit areas on Maui and the Big Island, followed by casework to provide immediate emergency needs. Red Cross Volunteers will also be reaching out to West Maui residents whose homes were destroyed by the brush fire.
From Wednesday to Sunday, the Red Cross had a total of 2,837 overnight stays across 38 evacuation centers statewide. Trained Red Cross mental health and health services professionals provided more than 2,100 service contacts. To date, over 250 Red Cross workers have been assisting local residents throughout the storm.
