HONOLULU, HI (07-26-2020) – Hawaii Red Cross volunteers have opened the following Emergency Shelter Locations in Kauai County in response to Hurricane Douglas as of 2pm Saturday, July 26th, 2020. Please stay informed with local new sources concerning storm updates.
KAUAI COUNTY
Kalaheo Neighborhood Center – 4480 Papalina Rd. Kalaheo, HI 96741
Kauai Community College – 3-1901 Kaumualii Hwy, Lihue, HI 96766
Kilauea Neighborhood Center – 2460 Keneke St, Kilauea, HI 96754
Kapaa Middle School – 4867 Olohena Rd, Kapaa, HI 96746
These shelters are recommended as a last resort. Shelter in-place at home, with family, or with a friend or neighbor if it is safe.
Food and water will not be provided at the shelters, so evacuees are advised to prepare accordingly and bring such items with them in their emergency kit. Additionally, to keep everyone safe, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face masks and hand sanitizer, are now critical pieces of any emergency kit. Please bring a supply with you when going to a shelter. Due to Hawaii’s isolation and vulnerability, the Red Cross recommends that people prepare their emergency kits for 14 days and bring their emergency supplies with them to shelters.
Pets entering a pet friendly shelter must be in a pet carrier or cage for safety and owners must provide water and food for their pets and will be expected to assist in the care for their pet.
