American Red Cross Responds to Flooding Across Northern Illinois

(KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS) March 2, 2018 — Red Cross volunteers are actively providing assistance to those affected by the flooding across northern Illinois. People affected by flooding can call 872-215-1579 for resources.

Disaster assessment teams are in the impacted communities in Kankakee and LaSalle counties conducting home visits all weekend. The Red Cross will be at the town hall meeting on March 3 at 9:00 a.m.at the United Methodist Church in Aroma Park. There will be a team of Red Cross caseworkers at the United Methodist Church in Aroma Park from 9:00a-6:00p on Saturday and from 1:00p-6:00p on Sunday.

Anyone affected by the flooding can either call 872-215-1579 or visit in-person with our caseworkers at the church.

The Red Cross is currently assisting with lodging, including opening shelters where counties indicate it’s needed, as well as providing food, clean-up kits, recovery information and other assistance.

Those who have been affected by the flooding and would like a home visit, need a place to sleep or need supplies to clean-up a flooded home, please call the Red Cross at 872-215-1579 for resources. The phone line is monitored Monday – Friday from 9:00a-5:00p and voicemails will be returned.

The Red Cross has been in constant contact with government partners, emergency managers and the community to assess needs since the flooding began in mid-February.

RED CROSS APPS People can download the all-inclusive Red Cross Emergency app which combines more than 35 emergency alerts to help keep the user safe. And there is a special mobile app -Monster Guard - designed for kids, teaching them to prepare for emergencies at home by playing an engaging game.
