American Red Cross Outreach to Those Impacted by Tornados in LaSalle and Ogle Counties
Red Cross Response Continues and Encourages Impacted Community to Reach Out
CHICAGO, IL (March 3, 2017) - After tornados touched down on Tuesday 2/28 in LaSalle County and in Ogle County, the American Red Cross is continuing to work in collaboration with emergency management agencies and community-based organizations to provide emergency relief this week through sheltering, feeding, casework, distribution of relief supplies, and disaster health and mental health services.
The Red Cross shelter and canteen services will remain open at Ottawa High School at 211 E Main St, Ottawa, IL 61350 through the weekend. The Red Cross is also supporting the impacted community and first responders with sheltering supplies and canteen services.
The Red Cross is reaching out to those impacted by the tornados to contact the Red Cross at 815-617-9733 daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., as the Red Cross will provide disaster relief supplies, disaster mental health services, support services, casework and shelter as individuals begin on path to recovery. Those calling outside the phone line hours, please leave a message and they will receive a call back.
“Now that the community is a few days after the impact of the winter tornados, the recovery process is beginning,” said Ken Cozzi, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of the Illinois River Valley. “We have Red Cross relief workers ready and working with impacted individuals on the next steps.”
