Volunteer disaster responders with the American Red Cross serving the Quad Cities and West Central Illinois helped 24 people affected by home fires from August 17 to today. Our volunteers assisted families affected by these incidents in Davenport, Hillsdale and Little York.
In this past week, the Red Cross helped a total of 16 adults and eight children with temporary housing, health and information about recovery services.
Since this coronavirus pandemic, Red Cross volunteers have been responding virtually to fires whenever possible. If you need assistance, please call our dispatch line: 1-877-597-0747. You can take two easy steps to protect your home and loved ones from a fire: get a smoke alarm and create a fire escape plan. Having a working smoke alarm cuts the risk of dying in a home fire in half.
Over 100 Red Cross volunteers responded to assist families impacted by the derecho that ripped through our region on August 10. The Red Cross provided temporary emergency lodging to more than 50 people and distributed over 1,700 meals and snacks in the Quad Cities.
Along with distributing more than 120 emergency clean-up supplies, including shovels, rakes, and tarps to assist with the clean-up efforts and continues to work with those impacted in their recovery.
Volunteers have assisted with health and mental health services and information about recovery resources.
