Volunteers disaster responders with the American Red Cross of Chicago and Northern Illinois responded to 20 fires from Monday, July 15 until today in Naperville, Bolingbrook, Beach Park, Streamwood, Dolton, Chicago including a multi-unit fire in Crystal Lake that affected more than 20 residents.
This past week, The Red Cross provided comfort to 65 individuals, including 43 adults and 22 children that were affected by these fires. Our volunteers offered immediate assistance with temporary housing, food, clothing, comfort kits with toiletry items, financial assistance, information about recovery services and health and mental health services.
The Red Cross responds to 3 to 4 home fires every day in Northern Illinois. The Red Cross recommends two easy steps to help protect your home and loved ones from a fire: get a smoke alarm and create a fire escape plan. For more Red Cross fire safety and preparedness information visit www.redcross.org/prepare.
On Saturday, Red Cross volunteers were also on site to provide snacks and water to more than 150 senior citizens that were being evacuated from their residence due to the air conditioning not working.
The Chicago & Northern Illinois region saw dangerous heat levels over the weekend. The Red Cross reminds residents to be prepared for more heat to come as summer is not yet over. Find more information here: https://rdcrss.org/2LwnSHa.
