The American Red Cross will be hosting a Sound the Alarm event in Rockford as part of a nationwide campaign to help reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by home fires.
WHAT: The Red Cross of Northwest Illinois is hosting a Sound the Alarm home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event. Red Cross volunteers and the Rockford Fire Department will go door to door to install free smoke alarms and help families create fire escape plans.

3218 11th Street, Rockford
WHEN: Saturday, May 11, 9:00 a.m.
WHO: Teams made up of volunteers from the Red Cross and the Rockford Fire Department.

Sound the Alarm events are part of the Home Fire Campaign, which the Red Cross launched in 2014 to reduce fire deaths and injuries. So far, it has reached more than 1.7 million people and saved 589 lives nationwide.
