This month, the Red Cross rallied volunteers across the Illinois Region to join the nationwide Sound the Alarm campaign to install free smoke alarms. This critical work is made possible with the support of our partners and volunteers, who helped us install over 2,000 free smoke alarms in 800 homes. Thanks to generous donations, these services are free and available for those in need.

Home Fire Response
Red Cross volunteers responded to 6 home fires in South Central Illinois in the past week. Volunteers responded to incidents in Coffeen, Effingham, Greenville, Jacksonville and Springfield.
During this past week, the Red Cross provided assistance to 15 individuals, through supplying them with basic items to meet immediate needs after a fire, and additional support in the form of health and mental health services and one-on-one support as the families involved work through next steps after experiencing a home fire.
If you or someone you know needs assistance after a home fire or local disaster, please call our dispatch line: (877) 597-0747.
Home fires are our country’s most frequent disaster and claim seven lives every day in the U.S. To help protect your household, test your smoke alarms each month and practice your escape plan until everyone can get out in less than two minutes.
