Our Volunteer Internship Program is unpaid, and you must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at the time of the internship.

• Type: Mostly virtual, with in-person opportunities at the Chicago office
• Time Commitment: 10-20 hours/week (flexible)
• Unpaid internship / Academic credit available
• Housing, relocation, and travel are not provided.
• We accept international students but cannot act as a sponsor.
• Our internships usually do not meet the requirements for a Public Health Practicum, Counseling, Social Work or Medical Experience.
   

• The program runs for a 14-week duration during the fall and spring semesters while the summer session runs for a 10-week duration. Alternative start and end dates may be accommodated depending on academic calendars.
• During the school year interns usually commit a minimum of 8-to-12 hours a week. During the summer interns usually commit a minimum of 20 hours per week. We ask applicants to ensure that their school and other commitments allow for the completion of their hours.
• At the start of either the fall, spring or summer cycles, the intern and supervisor will agree on a schedule. Interns will be required to keep track of their hours within our database.
   

Corporate Giving Internship

• Donor Stewardship: create impact reports and updates, maintain stewardship calendars
• Donor Engagement: support the planning and execution of donor engagement strategies
• Project Management: coordinate logistics and follow-up for employee engagement events
• Donor Research on current and prospective individual, corporate, and foundation donors
• Data entry, analysis and presentation
   

Individual Giving / Tiffany Circle Internship

• Donor Stewardship: create impact reports and updates, maintain stewardship calendars
• Donor Engagement: support the planning and execution of donor engagement strategies
• Project Management: coordinate logistics and follow-up for donor tours and engagement events
• Donor Research on current and prospective individual donors
• Data entry, analysis and presentation
• Support Board of Directors and Tiffany Circle in-person events and meetings (Chicago-specific)
   

Grant Writing Internship

• Grant Proposals and Reports: research, write, data, stories for Foundation and United Way funders
• Donor Stewardship: create impact reports and updates, maintain stewardship calendars
• Donor Research on current and prospective foundation donors
• Data entry, analysis and presentation
   

Fundraising Events Internship

• Heroes Breakfast (Chicago – May 6, 2026)
  • Preferred Chicago in-person availability on 5/5/26 and 5/6/26
  • Conduct post-event stewardship
  • Support outreach to potential Hero nominees
  • Support Nomination Outreach committee
• Taste on the River (Quad Cities – June 17, 2026)
  • Preferred Quad Cities in-person availability on 6/16/26 and 6/17/26
  • Manage outreach to new potential chefs
  • Support silent auction, including online setup and description writing
  • Create analysis report on auction
  • Research new ideas for auction packages/experiences
  • Mass mailings, and other administrative tasks
• Team Red Cross (Chicago – October 11, 2026)
  • Help coordinate the virtual kick-off event for runners
  • Support ordering and dissemination of runner singlets
  • Create monthly newsletters for runners
  • Communicate fundriasing deadlines
  • Manage communication with interested runners
• Evening of Stars (Bloomington/Normal – TBD fall 2026)
  • Support planning and logistics
  • Assist with data entry, mass mailings, filing, and other administrative tasks
  • Assist with materials sorting, preparation, and clean-up
  • Support silent auction, including online setup and description writing
  • Participate in in-person meetings and activities at the Rauner Center
