In an emergency, it’s the blood on the shelves that helps save lives, and first responders know this firsthand. That’s why Adams County Fire and Law Enforcement are joining forces with the American Red Cross to help ensure blood products are available for patients in need, including those undergoing cancer treatment or living with sickle cell disease.

“We are proud to hold the first Battle of the Badges Blood Drive in Adams County in support of such a lifesaving cause,” said Adams County Sheriff, Dan Mawhorr. “Every donation matters, and we’re honored to come together as a community to raise awareness about the critical need for blood and to make a meaningful difference.”

At the Adams County Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, donors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite department – Fire or Law Enforcement – while making a lifesaving contribution.

Emergency Blood Shortage
The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage as the blood supply fell nearly 25% in June. Blood donors are urgently needed to give now to help ensure patients receive lifesaving medical care without delay. The shortage is especially serious for types O positive and B negative blood.

About Blood Donation
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
