Adams County first responders want to ensure blood products are available for those in need of transfusions. To support this effort, Fire and Law Enforcement agencies are coming together to hold their first-ever Battle of the Badges Blood Drive. The two-day event will take place on Monday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 28, at Monroe Lighthouse Church in Monroe, Indiana.

In addition, donors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite department – Fire or Law Enforcement – while making a lifesaving contribution.

Emergency Blood Shortage
The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage as the blood supply fell nearly 25% in June. Blood donors are urgently needed to give now to help ensure patients receive lifesaving medical care without delay. The shortage is especially serious for types O positive and B negative blood.

About Blood Donation
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
