The American Red Cross Indiana Region continues to support disaster and recovery needs for 67 people affected by a 24-unit apartment fire overnight Friday at the Baldwin Creek apartment complex in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Red Cross is providing intake services on Monday, December 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Best Western Hotel located at 5501 Coventry Lane, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Red Cross volunteers will connect with those affected and provide assistance, health services and other community resources. If you or someone you know was directly impacted by the fire, please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
In the immediate aftermath of the fire, Red Cross disaster workers provided meals, health services, comfort and care and distributed emergency supplies. The Red Cross also provided shelter relief for 7 people. The shelter is now closed, and all residents have reported they have a safe and secure place to stay.
The Red Cross responds to about 65,000 disasters every year, and the majority are home fires. To help protect your family year-round, test your smoke alarms monthly and practice your home fire escape plan until everyone can escape in less than two minutes. If you cannot afford to purchase smoke alarms or are physically unable to install one, the Red Cross may be able to help Visit redcross.org/indianahomefire to request a free smoke alarm installation.
