Healthy individuals are needed every day to maintain an adequate blood supply for patients in need. The community is invited to help save lives by donating blood on Wednesday, May 29 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Sullivan City Hall, 110 N Main Street, Sullivan, IN 47882.
The City of Sullivan is hosting the blood drive as a part of its American Red Cross Community Day at City Hall. Red Cross staff and volunteers will share smoke alarm education, information about CPR/AED, and other resources. Community members will also be able to tour the new City Hall building, where the blood drive is hosted.
To make an appointment or to learn more, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device. People can use sponsor code Sullivan to make an appointment for the blood drive.
Once a donor has made the commitment to give blood, it is important to take a few simple steps to prepare and help ensure a good donation experience. Get a good night’s sleep, drink an extra 16 ounces of water, eat iron-rich foods to maintain a healthy iron level and consume a low-fat meal before donating.
Donating blood is an easy way to help others and only takes about an hour. The Red Cross encourages donors to give blood every time they are eligible.
