The Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross of the Indiana Region is seeking volunteers to help install free smoke alarms for local families in Evansville on May 11th.
“This is a rewarding way to give back and directly help local families,” said. “Beth Sweeney, executive director of the Southwest Chapter. “It’s a day of coming together to support one another, especially those most vulnerable to home fires. A working smoking alarm can be the difference between survival and tragedy — and as a community, we can help our neighbors stay safe by ensuring they have these lifesaving devices.”
Those interested can register now at https://bit.ly/4aPQEyJ to create a Red Cross ID and register to volunteer during our Home Fire Campaign event on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. No prior experience is needed. Training will be provided at Delaware Elementary School, located at 700 N. Garvin Street in Evansville, Indiana before volunteer teams — with members of the Red Cross and partners — visit area homes to install smoke alarms and share fire safety information with residents.
IF YOU NEED A SMOKE ALARM Residents who need assistance can visit redcross.org/INHomeFire to schedule an appointment for a free smoke alarm installation year-round. During the home visits, Red Cross volunteers also share information on the causes of home fires, how to prevent them, what to do if a fire starts and how to create an escape plan. The American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign has helped save more than 2,000 lives since launching in October 2014.
