Anyone who needs to find a shelter may visit redcross.org/shelter, download the free Red Cross Emergency App or call 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767). The Emergency App is available in app stores by searching for the American Red Cross or going to redcross.org/apps.
There are no shelters open at this time, but several locations are on stand by and able to open on short notice should the need arise.
2019 Flood Response in Kansas
The American Red Cross has been on the ground in Kansas since May 22 helping those affected by floods and tornadoes.
The role of the Red Cross in any disaster is to focus on addressing the immediate needs of the community. In this stage of the disaster, we are providing a safe place to stay in shelters, meals and comfort kits to the impacted residents.
The Red Cross is coordinating with community and government partners to address people’s needs, providing support to those affected.
How We Are Helping
As of May 28, 2019, the Red Cross has mobilized volunteers, supplies and resources to provide help to those who have been affected by the flooding in Kansas.
Provided 149 shelter stays in a total of 13 different shelters across Kansas
Served more than 2,215 meals and more than 2,263snacksanddistributed 357 cases of water.
Provided 133 comfort kits and 678 clean-up kits
Distributed 4,752 emergency relief supplies to 725 households
We have made 127 health services contacts,56 mental health services contacts and 110 disability integration contacts
