On Saturday, January 28, Team Rubicon and Mendon Fire Department joined up with the American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts to install smoke detectors as part of the Home Fire Campaign, a project which aims to reduce home fire deaths 25 percent nationwide by 2020.  Teams installed free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in multiple homes in Mendon, Mass., and educated residents on fire safety.   

It may only take two minutes for a house to become engulfed in flames and for needless deaths to occur because smoke detectors were not functioning.  Massachusetts residents can receive assistance checking their current safety equipment or contact the Red Cross and sign up for free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The Red Cross has been working to reduce that number through its Home Fire Campaign, a multi-year effort to reduce the number of home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent. Launched in October of 2014, the Red Cross and thousands of campaign partners have helped save numerous lives through the effort, as well as installing more than a quarter million smoke alarms in homes all across the country.
