The Boston Food Pantry is operated by the American Red Cross of Massachusetts. Since 1982, we’ve been on a mission to prioritize low‑barrier access to nutritious food as a foundation for community health and stability across the populations we serve. We recognize that food insecurity affects overall health and can contribute to chronic disease and stress, and we aim to provide consistent access to nutritious food that supports wellbeing. Most of the food distributed is fresh produce, with thoughtful attention to sustainability and the environment; items not suitable for distribution are composted at local farms. [See our Nutrition Policy.]

Volunteers account for most of the peoplepower required for the Boston Food Pantry to service our community. We host volunteer opportunities during morning hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, allowing people to build comradery with each other while addressing the growing problem of food insecurity in our community.
