DETROIT (Dec. 8, 2022) – The American Red Cross Michigan Region has received a $25,000 grant from Bank of America to support its Home Fire Campaign and ongoing disaster relief efforts.
The Red Cross installs free smoke alarms and shares home fire safety information through the Home Fire Campaign, now in its eighth year. Since July 1, 2022, Red Cross volunteers and employees have responded to more than 669 home fires across Michigan and installed more than 1,350 smoke alarms in at-risk communities. The majority of home fires and smoke alarm installs were in the city of Detroit and metro Detroit area.
“We are grateful to Bank of America for this generous grant,” said Mary Lynn Foster, regional chief executive officer of the Red Cross Michigan Region. “This grant allows the Red Cross to continue the progress we’re making in keeping families safe throughout Michigan by installing smoke alarms and helping them prepare for, respond to, and recover from a home fire.”
The grant is part of Bank of America’s philanthropic giving efforts in local communities. Grant recipients are selected for their commitment to economic mobility addressing basic needs, workforce development and community development.
“Bank of America is taking action to provide essential resources in Detroit by supporting the Red Cross campaign to install fire alarms in neighborhoods at greatest risk for fires and engage youth in prevention efforts,” said Matt Elliott, president, Bank of America Michigan. “The Home Fire Campaign saves lives, and we’re committed to helping efforts that help keep our community stay safe.”
