DETROIT (Dec. 1, 2022) – The American Red Cross Michigan Region has named Judi Harris as the executive director of its Mid-Michigan Chapter in Lansing. The position is part of the region’s leadership team.
This is a homecoming for Harris who worked for the Red Cross in the early 2000s. She was the health program coordinator in Haiti from 2005-2007. Prior to that role, she was a health program coordinator in North Macedonia from 2001-2003 following the Kosovo conflict.
“We’re excited to welcome Judi back to the Red Cross family,” said Mary Lynn Foster, regional chief executive officer. “Judi has a warm and compassionate spirit that will serve her well in advancing the Red Cross mission in the Mid-Michigan communities we serve.”
As executive director, Harris serves as the community liaison for the Mid-Michigan Chapter, which is based in Lansing and covers 11 surrounding counties. It is one of six Red Cross Chapters across Michigan. In her role, Harris provides support to the vast network of Red Cross humanitarian and biomedical services. These include disaster response, blood collection, training services, and helping members of the military, veterans, and their family members.
She joins the Red Cross from St. Vincent Catholic Charities in Lansing, where she served as program director for refugee services for 14 years. A refugee foster parent for more than 12 years, Harris is a co-founder and board member of the Global Institute of Lansing that helps refugee youth earn a high school diploma. She also helped establish the All Faith Alliances for Refugees in Lansing.
Harris earned a dual undergraduate degree in International Relations and French from San Francisco State University and a master’s degree in Health Education from Trinity College in Washington, D.C.
